We have recently been given a 1959 document titled 'Abstract of the title of BARLOW AND JONES LIMITED to freehold land and premises situate at Crown Point and Thomasson Fold in Edgworth in the County of Lancaster'. The document is four pages of typed text plus a cover page, and recites earlier transactions going back to 1814. The text is reproduced below.

BY DUPLICATE CONVEYANCE of this date made between Sir Thomas Barlow Bart. of 10 Wimpole Street London Physician John Herbert Barlow of Greenthorne Edgworth in the County of Lancaster Esquire and Maria Ainsworth of Lostock Dene near Bolton in the said County Widow of the one part and The Edgworth Spinning Company Limited (thereinafter called "the Purchaser") of the other part
RECITING
- Seisin of James Barlow. 17th December 1880 Will of Thomas Barlow whereby he gave and bequeathed unto the said Thomas Barlow, John Robert Barlow and the said Maria Ainsworth (then Maria Barlow Spinster) in trust the whole of the his freehold leasehold and personal property with power to dispose and sell.
- 16th August 1887 death of James Barlow. Will proved at Principal Probate Registry by the said Thomas Barlow John Robert Barlow and Maria Barlow
- 14th April 1891 the said Maria Barlow married Frank Ainsworth
- 22nd July 1893 death of Frank Ainsworth
- Agreement by the said Thomas Barlow, John Robert Barlow and Maria Ainsworth (thereinafter called the Vendors) for sale at price £4,895
IT WAS WITNESSED THAT:-
1. In pursuance of the said Agreement and in consideration of the sum of £4895 then paid (the receipt etc.) the Vendors as Trustees thereby conveyed unto the Purchasers
[1] ALL THOSE sixe messuages or dwellinghouses with the Barn Shippen Stable and Gardens thereto belonging situate and numbered 2,3,4,5,6, & 7 at Thomasson Fold Edgworth aforesaid Together with the land forming site thereof and occupied there- with AND ALSO seven messuages or dwellinghouses with the outbuildings and gardens or plots of land and road or way to the same several messuages and every or any of them belonging or appertaining situate and numbered 11 to 23 (odd nos. inc.) at Crown Point Edgworth aforesaid
AND ALSO those closes or parcels of land in Edgworth aforesaid commonly called or known by several names of the two Stone Pitfields (occupied as one field and part whereof has been converted into a Stone Quarry) and Leigh's Yate Meadow and Moor Yate Meadow Together with the Stone Quarry and all buildings erected on the said Stone Pit field and which said closes of land Stone Quarry buildings premises were formerly in the occupation of James Walsh AND ALSO THOSE seven messuages or dwellinghouses with the appurtenances thereto situate and numbered 36, 44, 46, 48, 50, 52 and 54 at the Stone Delf on part of the said Stone Pit Field at Edgworth aforesaid and the nine messuages or dwellinghouses and other buildings erected thereon and numbered 2 - 18 (even Nos. incl.) at Crown Point aforesaid
[2] ALL THOSE four messuages or dwellinghouses (formerly occupied as five messuages situate and nod. 9, 10, 11, & 12 at the Grave Yard near Thomasson Fold aforesaid together with the plot of land the site of the said messuages and occupied therewith and the appurtenances thereto belonging (exc. plot of land known as the Quakers Burial Ground hatched green on the plan thereto
drawn) together with benefit of covenant for quiet enjoyment and for indemnity all which said plot of land houses and premises firstly and secondly thereinbefore described and more particularly delineated and shown on the plan thereupon drawn and thereon edged red and contained 348 square yards or thereabouts
[3] ALL THAT piece or parcel of land situate in Edgworth aforesaid called or known by the name of "Kestor Meadow" bounded on the South by land belonging to Messrs Woodcock on the West in part by premises firstly hereinbefore described and in pr part by premises belonging to the Trustees of the Congregational Sunday School on the north in part by an occupation road leading from Windy Harbour to the highway from Bolton to Blackburn in other part by the premises belonging to the said Trustees of the Congregational Sunday School and on the East partly by the Northerly boundary of the said occupation road partly by land belonging to the said Messrs Woodcock and which said piece or parcel of land thereinbefore thirdly described contained in the whole 8,894 sq. yards or thereabouts
AND ALSO three dwellinghouses erected on the last mentioned piece of land and Nod. 1,3, and 5 at Crown Point aforesaid together with the Stables Hayloft and other buildings erected and built on Kestor Meadow aforesaid and the appurtenances thereto belonging all which said piece or parcel of land heres and premises thirdly thereinbefore described were shown in the plan therein drawn and thereon edged blue
TOGETHER with benefit of covenants by Trustees of the Edgworth Congregational Church to make form and pave and to pay for one half of certain streets or roads mentioned or referred to in an Indenture of Conveyance dated 2nd November, 1903 between the Vendors (1) and the Rev. Thomas Cain and Nineteen others (Trustees of the Edgworth Congregational Church) (2) TO HOLD all the said plots or pieces of land hereditaments and premises herein firstly secondly and thirdly described (except as aforesaid) TOGETHER with benefits of covenants thereinbefore mentioned and to the one of the Purchasers and their assigns in fee simple subject to any existing right. of user in manner theretobefore accustomed of the defined tracts or roads shown on the said plan thereupon drawn through or over the said plots of land and houses thereby conveyed on any part or parts thereof AND ALSO subject to all other rights and easements (if any) effecting the said hereditaments thereby conveyed or any part or parts thereof but discharged from all the trusts powers and provisos of the Will of the said James Barlow deceased

31st December 1958 - BY CONVEYANCE of this date made between THE EDGWORTH SPINNING AND MANUFACTURING COMPANY LIMITED whose Registered office was situate at Vale Mill Turton in the County of Lancaster (thereinafter called "the Vendor") of the one part and BARLOW AND JONES LIMITED whose registered office was situate at 86 Princess Street in the City of Manchester (thereinafter called "the Purchaser") of the other part
RECITING:-
- Seisin of Vendor and Agreement for sale at the price of £7,500
- The Entire issued share capital of the Vendor was in the beneficial ownership of the Purchaser or its nominees.
IT WAS WITNESSED that in pursuance of the said Agreement and in conson. of the said sum of £7,500 then paid by the Purchaser to the Vender (receipt etc.) the Vendor as beneficial owner thereby conveyed unto the Purchaser
ALL THOSE the plots of land buildings and hereditaments more particularly described in the Schedule thereto
TO HOLD the same unto the Purchaser in fee simple subject as more particularly mentioned in the said Schedule.
